TFAM Director Jun Jieh Wang to Step Down
By EMILY CHEUNG
After a four-year tenure, Taiwanese media artist, curator, and educator Jun Jieh Wang will step down as director of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM), effective January 31. In February, Dejian Liu, the deputy commissioner of Taipei City Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs, will take over as the museum’s acting director.
Wang was appointed as TFAM director on January 31, 2021, succeeding Ping Lin who resigned in the previous year after co-curating an exhibition that included a controversial political artwork.
Under Wang’s leadership, key records of TFAM’s exhibitions, collections, and research publications since the museum’s establishment in 1983 were published on the open-access website “Exhibition Archive 1983–1994” in 2023. Alongside various research-driven projects and curations, Wang also spearheaded the institution’s venture into new technologies and virtual media through the TFAM Net.Open Platform, which invites artists, computer engineers, and scientists to collaborate on exhibitions in the digital realm.
Following his departure, Wang will return to his role as professor of new media art at Taipei National University of the Arts.
