Alexie Glass-Kantor and Dunja Gottweis Join Art Dubai Group
By ANNETTE MEIER
Art Dubai Group (ADG), a major cultural programming company in the Middle East, has appointed Alexie Glass-Kantor as its curatorial executive director and Dunja Gottweis as the fair director for Art Dubai. Both positions are based in Dubai—Glass-Kantor will assume her role in April, while Gottweis will take over planning for next year’s edition of Art Dubai.
Glass-Kantor previously served as executive director of Sydney-based nonprofit Artspace, until her departure in mid-September last year. During her eleven-year tenure, she oversaw the multimillion-dollar renovation of Artspace’s facilities and cultivated rent-free artist residencies as well as global collaborations. Among many international curatorial projects, Glass-Kantor has curated several recent editions of Art Basel Hong Kong’s Encounters sector.
As ADG’s first curatorial executive director, Glass-Kantor will focus on growing the institution and its partnerships through year-round commissioning and professional development initiatives. She will work with Art Dubai’s incumbent leadership team and the Dubai government to support local artistic programs and international exchanges, promoting the Gulf region’s art landscape on a global scale.
Gottweis brings to her new role over two decades of international art world experience, having worked at Art Basel for more than 12 years and serving on its management board since 2022. She spearheaded engagement with galleries at the four fairs worldwide, and was instrumental in the launch of Art Basel’s Hong Kong and Paris editions. Previously, Gottweis directed regional and global projects and exhibitions at the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna.
Commenting on both appointments, cofounder and CEO of ADG Ben Floyd stated in a press release: “As we look to grow our mandate and as the cultural scene in this region continues to mature, these two new positions are a game-changer for the company.”
