Sara Raza Hired As Guest Curator At Rubin Museum Of Art

The Rubin Museum of Art in New York has appointed curator and writer Sara Raza to guest curate one of several exhibitions for the museum’s upcoming program, “Power: Within and Between Us—A Yearlong Exploration,” which will run from February 1, 2019 to January 6, 2020. The series will examine various notions of power—strength, control, influence and dominance—through exhibitions, talks and events.
Raza currently maintains a curatorial studio practice, Punk Orientalism, which is a global art and visual cultures studio in New York, and is also the West and Central Asia desk editor for ArtAsiaPacific. She has organized numerous exhibitions and projects at international institutions in the Middle East, Asia and Europe, and was formerly the Guggenheim UBS MAP Curator, Middle East and North Africa. From 2011 to 2014, she served as the London-based associate curator for Sharjah’s Maraya Art Centre, working with artists such as Adel Abidin, Wafaa Bilal and Mohammend Kazem. She was also the founding head of curatorial programs at Alāan Artspace in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; curator of public programs at London's Tate Modern in 2006–08; and head of education and public programs and curator of the Public Art Festival, organized by Yarat Contemporary Art Space in Baku, in 2015.
Raza’s exhibition at the Rubin Museum is tentatively titled “The Power of Non-Conformity” and is scheduled to open on August 9, running through to January 6, 2020.
