Phillips Auction House Appoints Martin Wilson as CEO
By ANNETTE MEIER
On January 6, international auction house Phillips announced Martin Wilson as its new chief executive officer, effective immediately. Wilson will succeed Edward Dolman, who will remain as executive chairman through the end of May before assuming a consultancy position.
Wilson brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having worked for nearly three decades in the international art and auction world. With law degrees from Paris’s Sorbonne University and King’s College in London, he is a leading figure in the field of art law, as well as the founder of the Art Lawyers Association.
For the last six years Wilson served as chief legal officer on Phillips’s executive board, overseeing the company’s global legal and compliance function. Before joining Phillips in 2018, Wilson worked at Christie’s auction house for 20 years, providing legal, financial, commercial, and strategic advice to the global executive and leadership teams. During his tenure there he established himself by securing and executing a number of high-profile sales, and managing important client relationships.
Commenting on his appointment, Wilson extended his gratitude toward Dolman: “It has been a privilege to collaborate with him throughout my career, and I look forward to shaping the next chapter of Phillips together.”
