Inti Guerrero Named Curator of 2018 EVA International Biennial in Ireland

On July 28, Inti Guerrero was appointed curator of the 2018 edition of Ireland’s biennial, the EVA International. The announcement was made in connection with the closing of the 37th edition of the biennial, "Still (the) Barbarians," curated by Koyo Kouoh. Founded in 1977 and previously an annual exhibition until 2010, EVA International seeks to use contemporary art to engage with the people and city of Limerick, located in mid-western Ireland. The international artist roster for the 2018 EVA International, which will run from April 14 to July 8, will be selected from an open call that will launch later in September 2016.
“I am deeply honored to have been invited to be the curator of the 2018 edition of EVA International – Ireland’s Biennial, a groundbreaking exhibition that has contributed to reimagining internationalisms. I look forward to working with artists and the EVA team to develop the Biennial program for the city, its audiences, and continuing the dialogue with previous appointed curators whom I hold in great regard,” said Guerrero on his new role.
Currently based in Hong Kong, Guerrero is adjunct curator of Latin American art at the Tate in London, a position he started in January this year, and serves as ArtAsiaPacific’s Latin America desk editor. Prior to that, he was associate artistic director and curator at TEOR/éTica, an independent art space in San José, Costa Rica. Earlier this year, he initiated a year-long curatorial project space called Neptune in the industrial district of Chai Wan in Hong Kong, envisioned for group exhibitions that speak to the local art community, and particularly engaging with Neptune’s surrounding neighborhood.
