On February 6, Hong Kong’s nonprofit art space Para Site announced the appointment of Alan Lo as board chair, following the retirement of Alan Lau as board chair and Mimi Chun as board vice chair. While Lau remains a board member, Chun will depart from Para Site to focus on professional and personal projects.
Lau joined Para Site’s board in 2009. During his tenure, Para Site staged 89 exhibitions in Hong Kong and abroad, collaborating with major international institutions and events such as the MoMA PS1 in New York; Shanghai’s Rockbund Art Museum; the Kadist; and the Kathmandu Triennale in 2022.
Chun is also a longstanding member of Para Site, having joined the board in 2014. Her initial appointment coincided with Para Site’s first major relocation and expansion efforts.
In a press release, Para Site executive director and curator Billy Tang expressed his gratitude to Lau and Chun, noting that “[through] the length of [their] service and stewardship toward our organization,” the two helped establish Para Site “as an international presence on the forefront of developments in contemporary art.”
Entrepreneur and investor Alan Lo joined as a board member of Para Site in 2015. He is a dedicated patron of the arts and has served on the boards of various establishments worldwide, including the Tate Asia Pacific Acquisition Committee at London’s Tate Modern and the Global Council of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
Commenting on his appointment, Lo stated: “Para Site remains a critical laboratory for new innovations in contemporary art, and many ‘firsts’ are achieved here. . . . To be able to take on this position is an honor, and I look forward to working closely with everyone to achieve the collective mission of the organization.”
As the changes come into full effect this month, Para Site will have a total of 12 active board members.
