The forthcoming Bangkok Art Biennale, themed “Nurture Gaia” and set to open in the Thai capital next month, has revealed the final details for its fourth edition, adding two more venues and 31 international artists to the lineup.

The supplementary artists include the Akha painter Busui Ajaw, Saigon-based artist Lêna Bùi, Seoul-based mixed-media artist Gimhongsok, Chongqing-born painter Xiyao Wang, and British Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor, among others. The lineup, last detailed in July, now features 76 artists from 39 countries who will present multimedia works across 11 citywide venues, including the new additions of the Central World retail complex, and the Wat Bowonniwetwiharn Ratchaworawiharn, a major Buddhist temple. Many of the participating artists’ works are new, and some will become permanent commissions. Kapoor’s installations, which were commissioned by the massive development One Bangkok, will become a part of its public art collection.

The “Nurture Gaia” edition will address anthropogenic environmental impact through scientific theories and philosophies such as ecology, collectivism, and feminism. As such, the Biennale will take place across historic cultural landmarks and public spaces such as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha and the Temple of Dawn, the Museum Siam in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district, as well as various art galleries throughout the city.

Co-organized by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Thailand’s Fine Arts Department, and One Bangkok, among other private and public organizations in the city, the Biennale is slated to run from October 24 to February 25, 2025.
