Highlights from Art Basel Hong Kong 2017

It’s that time of year again for Art Basel Hong Kong (ABHK)! Nestled across two floors in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre overlooking Victoria Harbour, the exhibition halls filled with exhibitors and guests for the event’s preview on March 21. In its 5th edition, ABHK hosted 242 international galleries from around the globe—over half from the Asia and Asia-Pacific region—bringing with them a vast range of artworks from 20th century to contemporary. For the first time, ABHK brought the successful “Kabinett” sector from the Miami Beach iteration, where participating galleries featured special curatorial projects in a separate area inside its booths. Popular was the “Encounters” sector, which presented 17 large-scale works within the main arteries of the fair, the majority of which were commissioned specifically for the space at ABHK, providing guests with unique perspective of artwork presentation within the fair setting. ArtAsiaPacific had a first look around the fair, which runs until March 26, 2017. Here are some highlights.
