As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve at a rapid pace, how do we define our humanity? In recent years, artists around the world have investigated this question, not only employing AI in imaginative ways, but also looking back to Indigenous knowledge and stories from centuries ago.

In their exhibition at Hanart TZ Gallery in Hong Kong, Raqs Media Collective—the New Delhi-based artists and researchers Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula, and Shuddhabrata Sengupta—debuted 60 mixed-medium and multimedia works. Ranging from AI and moving images to photographs, diagrams, and textiles, the selection reflected the group’s philosophical inquiry into the conflict between the rise of AI and our complex origins as human beings.
