Informed by his critical engagement and close collaboration with individuals and communities suffering from intergenerational trauma brought about by colonialism, war, and displacement, Tuan Andrew Nguyen investigates the ramifications of memory and the erasure of place and identity through film and sculptural works.

Born in Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City) in the mid-1970s, Nguyen moved with his family to the United States, studying fine arts at the University of California Irvine before earning an MFA from CalArts. A member of the Propeller Group, an artist collective and faux advertising agency that critiques contemporary Vietnam, Nguyen’s recent solo practice has addressed the reverberations of 20th-century Vietnamese history with a combination of poetic seriousness and visual clarity.
