Antonio Vega Macotela’s Burning Landscapes (2019) tapestries of leaked tax-evader lists masked in code and Jonas Staal’s project on the rise of the far-right, Steve Bannon: A Propaganda Retrospective (2018–19)—both shown at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) for the 12th Taipei Biennial (11/21–3/14/21)—bookended a year that began with anxiously watching the bushfires in Australia, the rapid spread of Covid-19, violent global protests, and an extremely close presidential election in the United States.
