Shanghai native-son Chen Zhen, born into a family of doctors, spent much of his career exploring the intersections between art and medicine, East and West, conflict and resolution, becoming a powerful voice in China for globalization. His retrospective at the Shanghai Art Museum, organized with the help of Galleria Continua in Beijing and San Gimignano, Italy, and the Francois Pinault Collection in Paris, where the artist lived and worked, showcases 14 pieces created between 1990 and his untimely death in 2000 at the age of 45.
