One on One: James Clar on Pierre Huyghe

PIERRE HUYGHE, Streamside Day, 2003, still from 16 mm film and video transferred to digital Betacam with color and sound: 26 min. Courtesy the artist and Marian Goodman Gallery, New York/London/Paris.

I met Pierre Huyghe in 2004 while I was doing a residency with Eyebeam Atelier in New York. A fresh 20-something graduate with my master’s from New York University (NYU)’s Interactive Telecommunications program, I was still trying to understand how to apply the technical skills I had learned to an art practice. I worked for the advertising agency R/GA for three months after receiving my degree, but immediately quit once I received my residency with Eyebeam.
