The eruption of Black Lives Matter protests in June across the United States, far across the Pacific Ocean, pushed issues of race into mainstream Australian discourse, galvanizing critical reflections on prejudice and inequality within our own borders. While institutions were forced to close their doors due to Covid-19, they finally opened conversations around social justice, acknowledging and confronting systemic biases that continue to dictate “cultural taste” and exclude certain people.
