The intimate connection between the body and the physical spaces that surround it was manifest in “And Pull Yesterday into Today,” an exhibition retracing the artistic trajectory of Swiss artist Heidi Bucher (1926–1993). Having started out as a textile designer in the 1940s, Bucher went on to experiment with painting and sculpture, leading to a visionary practice that articulated how women are often rendered invisible. In many of her works, Bucher refused to see the female body and its lived spaces as separate. She aimed to confront the social and spatial exclusion of women through history.
