Editor’s Letter: Unseeing Leap

The science fictional started making more sense to me amid the reality-bending events of 2022—which at times were like a repeat of 2020, at least for us in Hong Kong. We fell into a time-loop before the Lunar New Year holiday, as the Omicron wave passed through the city’s population in February and March, closing offices and schools again, delaying exhibitions and major events in our industry including Art Basel Hong Kong. We hunkered down, limited our time together in the office, and braced for a proposed but never implemented lockdown for city-wide universal testing. Any idea of the future felt temporarily suspended.
