Manal AlDowayan: "The Eternal Return of the Same"

Deep time is a salient theme in “The Eternal Return of the Same,” Manal AlDowayan’s first solo exhibition at Gallery Isabelle van den Eynde in Dubai. Fixated with the cycles of nature that run like clockwork, and the births and deaths that occur in-between, the Saudi artist looks at the pleasant surprises and wicked violence wrought by the relentless passage of time; the luminous aggression of daylight followed by the velvety relief of nightfall; the Earth’s monotonous rotation on its axis; the rain and the drought. AlDowayan also attempts to capture social shifts, specifically those in her home country, which have been occurring at an accelerating rate.
