“The home is where it’s decided who we are, what will become of us, and what we will repress,” stated a press release for “Dream Baby Dream” (2020) at the Haus Mödrath. Curated by art critic and author Gesine Borcherdt, the exhibition focused on how childhood joys and traumas linger into adulthood—particularly for artists, who translate their formative experiences into imagery. Taken by this curatorial project’s success, Borcherdt has now created an anthology out of it: Dream On Baby (2024), featuring 33 artists’ recollections of their youth based off interviews that Borcherdt conducted, transcribed, and edited.
