Can Hong Kong support two art fairs? Can the duopoly in Seoul keep up their collaborative momentum? And can Sydney maintain its hold on the Australasian art market? The September season kicked off with numerous events across the Asia-Pacific region that tested these questions.

HONG KONG

Art021 Hong Kong, a novel extension of the Shanghai-based fair that also runs events in Beijing and Shenzhen, rang its opening bell from August 29 to September 1. Supported by a HKD 15 million grant (USD 1.9 million) from Hong Kong’s Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund, the commercial fair gathered artworks from 31 galleries at Phillips’s Asia headquarters in the West Kowloon Cultural District Tower with additional events elsewhere in the city and public sculptures in Victoria Park.
