Mountain Trail Treasures: 5th Anyang Public Art Project

While not as widely known as its more established counterparts, such as Mediacity Seoul or the Gwangju and Busan biennales, the Anyang Public Art Project (APAP) has been active for over a decade. Set up in 2005 by the city government of Anyang, the biennial event takes place 20 kilometers south of Seoul.  APAP opened its fifth iteration on October 15, 2016. This year’s edition is led by artistic director Eungie Joo, who most recently curated the 2015 Sharjah Biennial, the New Museum Triennial in 2012, the Korean Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009 and previously was director of art and cultural programs at Instituto Inhotim in Brazil. For APAP 5, Joo and her team commissioned 20 artists and three collective projects to interact mindfully with the city. Here are some highlights of APAP 5, which will remain up until December 15.

The 5th Anyang Public Art Project is currently on view at various locations around Anyang, South Korea, until December 15, 2016.
