Now in its 15th edition, ArtAsiaPacific’s annual Almanac tracks the diverse cultural landscape from the Asia Pacific to the Middle East. Over time and within each issue, the Almanac is an archive between two covers of the region’s creativity. The 53 Country Reports detail developments in specific art scenes. The News section covers the major headlines of 2019, from protests that disrupted art events to scandals over unethical funding, while Cultural Currency reviews the year in auctions and art fairs. The editors pick six Artists of the Year, as well as the top Festivals and Exhibitions. Clara CheungLi ZhenhuaHan Nefkens, Tom Tandio, and Jason Wee share their Reflections on art and society. We also Preview ten shows to look forward to in 2020. The precarious state of the world at the end of the decade is captured in elements of art director Heesun Seo’s design for the internal pages and the Almanac’s cover. Yet the reshuffling and shifting of the world has also produced many new openings and opportunities for the creative fields. We hope that readers will be as absorbed, challenged, and inspired as they discover the many worlds found in the Almanac.
